Carbon black is a form of carbon that has a high surface-area-to-volume ratio. It is mainly used as a reinforcing filler in tires and other rubber products.
Global demand for carbon black in 2016 was 13.2 million tons (expected to grow 5.6% per year).
Applications of carbon black
1. Reinforcer in tires (80% of the capacity)
2. Filler in rubber products (hoses, flooring, etc.)
3. Pigment in inks and plastic products
The oils produced through this process can be sold for heating or as a blending oil with recyclers.
